It’s often a moment on everyone’s bucket list: watch the iconic ball drop on New Year’s Eve at Times Square. This tradition first began is 1907 and this year is your chance to get involved. New York is an iconic destination all year round, but at winter it completely sparkles, both metaphorically and figuratively. There’s nothing quite like New York at New Years and it truly lives up to its title of the city that never sleeps. We’ve listed the top things you need to do when visiting New York for New Years Eve celebrations.

1. New York Harbor Fireworks

Fireworks are launched from a variety of location all across New York once that clock strikes midnight. One of the most picturesque of these displays is certainly the show over at the New York Harbor. You can see them from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, downtown Manhattan’s Battery Park, or even by a romantic boat trip at the harbour. Whether you want to splash out on a luxurious cruise package or hop on board the cheapest cruise in New York, the Staten Island Ferry which is free, you’ll witness a fabulous firework display you won’t forget. Other firework displays include Central Park and the Grand Army Plaza.

2. New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace

This is an annual free concert which was originally founded in 1984. It’s a wonderful chance to bring in the New Year in both a beautiful and reflective way. This concert is held in the largest cathedral in the world, Saint John the Divine, and begins at 7 p.m. This is perfect for those who don’t like fireworks or just fancy doing something more unique for New Year’s Eve.

3. The Times Square Ball Drop

We are certainly saving the best for last – one of the world’s most iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations. The main event happens from the top of Times Square and the best view is from up Broadway between 43rd and 50th, and on 7th Avenue between 43rd and 59th street. This is an event you will need to arrive super early for, dress warmly (we’re talking layers and layers) and bring plenty of food and drink with you, or eat before you arrive at one of these brilliant places.

Before you jet off on the New Years trip of a lifetime, don’t forget your esta application. You can’t enter the USA without it, so plan ahead so your dreams can come true.
